Vince Acne & Oil Clear Facewash review – the affordable solution

Aicha’s Experience – Vince Acne & Oil Clear Facewash review

As you know by now! I have acne-prone oily skin and that means I tend to hunt for products that deal with this predilectment.

Not that I’m not happy with the other brand that I had been using. It was just that the store at the time didn’t have it in stock. So, I was looking for something. I saw Vince – Acne and Oil Clear face wash hidden away in a corner; a simple green bottle oblivious to onlookers. (I have tried one peel-off mask from the brand and I will write a full review about it)

There was anti-acne written on top of it. I asked the beauty advisor who was in the skincare section, and to my surprise she said no one buys it and I could try the clean and clear product better.

The face wash is clear. I don’t know why they have added color to the components. It is smooth with a gel like consistency without any grains in it. Unlike the body shop face wash, it was not difficult to lather it up and just a little bit of product was enough. One of the best quality of the face wash is that it makes the skin smooth and cleared the excess oil without making the skin too dry.  However, it is important to mention that there are various toxic, harsh and bad ingredients used in it.

Bad Ingredients & Vince – Acne and Oil Clear face review ;

1- Methanal, also known as formalin, is a solution of water and formaldehyde that is commonly used as a preservative and disinfectant. It can be harmful to human skin if it is not diluted properly or if it is in contact with the skin for prolonged periods of time. Prolonged or repeated skin contact with formalin can cause skin irritation, redness, and itching. It can also cause allergic reactions in some individuals. Inhaling formalin fumes can cause respiratory irritation and other symptoms. Long-term exposure to formalin may also increase the risk of certain types of cancer.

2- Cocamide DEA (diethanolamine) is a commonly used ingredient in personal care products such as shampoos, soaps, and lotions. It is a fatty acid amide that is derived from coconut oil and is used as a thickening agent and emulsifier.

Exposure to Cocamide DEA can cause skin irritation, redness, itching, and other symptoms in some individuals. Prolonged or repeated skin contact may also lead to allergic reactions. Some studies have also suggested that high levels of Cocamide DEA can cause cancer in animals, although more research is needed to confirm these findings in humans. The US FDA also has not yet banned it. However, it’s worth noting that there are alternative ingredients that can be used in personal care products that are considered to be safer and more gentle on the skin.

Above mentioned ingrdients makes it not suitable to use as face wash at all. And, it makes me wonder – the sales girl was perhaps right !

Packaging – Vince Acne & Oil Clear Facewash review

The tube-shaped bottle is the bad part for me as a lot of product is lost this way, especially if it is a liquid and I had little control and difficulty in getting it back in the tube. Vince, really needs to make a bottle like Body shop tea tree oil.

Vince Acne & Oil Clear Facewash review On the Budget

I bought the bottle for about PKR 245 for around 75 ml product.

The brand says that it makes the skin fairer! To be very honest, I don’t feel happy using products that specify fairness as an attribute of their product which reflects the colonial mindset behind it. It is extremely sad that a physical feature of our oppressors that ruled India for 100 years is being corporatised as a beauty trait. Especially considering all the backlash Fair & lovely received, this should just stop already. Healthy & glowing skin doesn’t have to be fair. That is being said, the face wash did nothing to make my skin fairer or reduce the acne spots in any way. The product is just good for oil control and making skin smooth.

Aicha’s Verdict

4/10
