Is it the best drugstore blush ? Watch the swatch

Today’s review is about one of the best drugstore blush that is doll face from luscious cosmetics – Shade 026 and which I have got in the mystery box  from the 10th Anniversary collection.

Rosy cheeks are considered the epitome of beauty and we have all has seen a glamorous women applying blush as final touch in the beauty advertisements.  Doll Face 026- is a very pretty pink shade that gives a natural colour to the face. The texture is very matte  which means you can wear it everyday.

History of powder blush

Blush has a fascinating history. The ancient Egyptians were the first one to incorporate blush in their beauty regime. They used ground ochre on the cheeks as compared to Greeks, who favoured crushed mulberries on their pale faces. It was used to provide a healthy beautiful flush on their face which eventually became a status symbol among the rich.

By the Middle ages, the blush declined in the popularity as it was associated with brothels and prostitutes. Thus, Pale skin was a signifier of wealth in Europe.

However, Elizabeth 1  of England popularised blush once again and endorsed the use of cosmetics. The courtesan imitated the look of the queen by painting their faces with chalky white powders, red rouges, red lips, and yellow hair. It was no surprise that all these characteristics were present in the Virgin Queen.

In those days the component used in the blush were Madder, Cochineal, and ochre-based compounds but mainly, vermilion (mercuric sulfide) was the most popular choice of the fashionable court lady that was extremely toxic  and could poison a person if digested.

Because of the toxic materials, Queen Victoria discouraged the use of the cosmetics. However, the blush was reborn in  20th century and become extremely popular in the warm shades in the 60’s. The bright makeup rage brought the funky shades of red and pink in the 80’s and after that it never stopped and since then  the blush has come in a variety of shades.

POWDER BLUSH DOLL FACE

Luscious Cosmetics has 10 colours in the Powder blush range available both in shimmer and matte textures. The formula is  blend-able and on the budget, it is very pocket friendly having a net weight of .0.21 oz (6 g) and would last a very long time.

For centuries, the main aim of the blush is to make ladies appear young and healthy by providing a natural flush on to their face.  These days, we have a lot of  neutral colours which can be used as a  contour as well but the powder pink and hot pink that were favoured by our mothers and grandmothers remain the classic.  Doll Face – 026 is one such classic beautiful colour.

Myth about acne victims and blush

The problem that most of the brown girls face is that the blush seldom  shows up on their face. After the application, it just vanishes on to the skin.  On swatch testing, Doll Face- 026 appeared on my wrist after multiple swipes) and on the face I had to apply in multiples layers to make it appear as it is too powdery. However, for the subtle, barely noticeable effect single swipe is enough.

To be very honest, Blush is one beauty product that I have been quite scared to use because of my oily and acne prone skin. My mind had been conditioned that the blush will aggravate the acne. Precise, due to my brown skin tone, it is one product that has been pretty tricky to master. For me Doll face – 026 is certainly the best drugstore blush as it has accentuated my natural cuts without making me appear like a clown without any breakout.
