Importance of Sunscreen
Understanding the necessity of using sunscreen daily is essential. The damaging UV rays come in two types: UVA and UVB.
UVA Rays
UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, leading to early aging, long-lasting tanning, and skin cancer. They’re especially risky as they can pass through glass. For instance, if you’re indoors and sunlight comes in, UVA rays can still affect you. Think of UVA like a cartoon tornado that follows and harms you. That’s why using sunscreen daily is crucial, even if you’re not heading outdoors.
UVB Rays
On the other hand, UVB causes immediate damage in the form of instant tanning & sunburn. Most of the people who immediately get tanned on the beach are due to UVB.
Type of Sun Block
To protect against UV ray damage, there are two types of sunscreens: physical sunscreen and chemical sunscreens. I believe individuals with oily or pimple-prone skin often face challenges when searching for the right sunscreen.
Physical Sun block
- Reflects the UV rays and disperses it
- Has Zinc oxide or titanium dioxide in its main ingredient
- No need to wait for 20 -30 min before exposure.
- Thicker consistency
- Causes a white cast
- Not suitable for Oily/pimple prone skin
- Offers less protection than chemical sun blocks
- Consider generally safer than chemical sunblocks as it doesn’t penetrate into the bloodstream
Chemical Sun block
- Absorbs the UV rays and converts them into heat.
- Has ingredients like avobenzone, octocrylene, Octinoxate, and oxybenzone in it
- Need to wait for 20 – 30 min before exposure.
- Thinner consistency
- Don’t cause a white cast
- Suitable for Oily/pimple prone skin
- Offers more protection than physical sun blocks
- Pretty controversial as UV filters can penetrate into the bloodstream

Bio One – Sunscreen for Oily Skin
Bio one is a chemical sun block, but it has an element of physical sunblock, that is, Zinc oxide in it as well.
It’s a water-based sunscreen that works well for oily skin. Its light consistency is achieved by including alcohol, making the product lighter and extending its shelf life. Emulsifiers like waxes and Xanthan Gum in the ingredients combine oil-based and water-based components to prevent oxidation.
Main UV filter in Bio One
The main UV filters used in it are ;
- OMC/Octinoxate that blocks UVB rays,
- Avobenzone, a full spectrum that blocks UVA rays.
- Zinc oxide & benzophenone that blocks both UVA & UVB rays.
Ingredients for Acne-Prone Skin in Bio One
It’s very good for acne-prone skin due to its inclusion of BHA, which can penetrate deep into the skin to dissolve oil, sebum, and dead skin cells. BHA is also a great exfoliator. Another reason for adding it to the sunscreen is to act as a preservative to prevent it from going bad. Additionally, Bio One contains tocopheryl acetate, a form of Vitamin E that serves as an antioxidant, promoting skin healing and reducing signs of aging.
