Sunbec Cream- Sunscreen for Oily Skin:

My dermatologist recommended this one to me. It’s a chemical, broad-spectrum sunblock. The tube also mentions that Sunbec can be used after chemical peels and for dermatitis, among other things.

The main UV filters in it are;

  • Avobenzone (a full spectrum that blocks UVA rays)
  • Homosalate ( a weak UVB filter), Octocyrlene, (a UVB filter & without it Avobenze is useless by 50%)
  • Oxybenzone (also absorbs & scatters both  UVA & UVB rays)
  • Octisalate which offers UVB protection and also stabilises Avobenzone
  • Nano particles of Titanium Doxide and Zinc Oxide ( full spectrum blocks UVA &UVB)

Ingredients in SUNBEC SUNSCREEN

Beach Test of Sunbec cream – Sunscreen for Oily Skin

Sunbec is really light and not greasy. I’ve used it at the beach, and it didn’t cause tanning. Although it was partly sunny that day, I usually got tanned at the beach before. This time, wherever I applied the sunscreen, I didn’t experience that effect. So, this beach test shows the sunscreen’s effectiveness, especially against UVA rays.

You should know that if you’re out in the sun, in the water at the beach, or sweating a lot, you need to remove the sunblock and reapply it every 2 hours. This isn’t only to shield you from UV rays but also to avoid potential irritation from the chemicals in the sunblock like avobenzone and oxybenzone. These chemicals could cause eczema-like irritation on the skin’s surface and raise the risk of them penetrating into the bloodstream, especially if they’re encapsulated.

Beach test – I have applied Sunbec cream on my face

I’ve used both sunblocks and find them highly effective. They helped reduce tanning and didn’t cause pimples.

What is Microencapsulation technology ?

Microencapsulation technology involves encasing active substances in tiny capsules. This prevents them from entering the skin and keeps them on the skin’s surface. This technique ensures proper protection and boosts sensitivity to light. It’s like wearing sunglasses for your skin.

Controversial UV filters in Chemical Sunscreen!

Endocrine Disruptors:

UV filters like avobenzone, OMC, oxybenzone, benzophenone, octocrylene, homosalate are endocrine disruptors, which means these mimic the presence of estrogen in the body and can cause organ system toxicity.

Potential Carcinogens in Bio One & Sunbec!

Sunbec contains benzophenone in the form of oxybenzone, while Bio One includes benzophenone and BHA. These substances are linked to various harmful effects and have been classified as “possibly carcinogenic to humans” by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The concerning aspect of Benzophenone is its ability to be absorbed into the bloodstream, along with the potential carcinogen Oxybenzone, which can be detected in the bloodstream 4-5 hours after application.

Conclusion

However, Oxybenzone hasn’t been banned by the FDA or the EU, as they argue that it’s used in minimal amounts that don’t pose harm to the body. Nevertheless, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classification can not be ruled out. The downside with Sunbec is its lack of microencapsulation technology like Bio One. This results in everything being absorbed into the bloodstream, including the potential carcinogen Oxybenzone, which can be detected in the bloodstream 4-5 hours after application. Despite all this, Oxybenzone is still not banned by the FDA or the EU.

Bio One, although it uses two potentially controversial ingredients, utilizes microencapsulation technology, ideally keeping the ingredients on the skin’s upper layers without assimilating into the bloodstream.

Some ingredients, like benzophenone, can cause irritation. Generally, both products are worth trying, provided they don’t irritate your skin. Given ongoing research, it’s wise to avoid products that raise concerns, especially when alternatives are available.

Because some ingredients like benzophenone & cause irritation. Overall, if the ingredient, both of them are fine to try as long as the ingredients do not irritate you. Being a subject of research, it is better to avoid products that raise red flag as soon as a alternative is available.
