Step-by-Step Guide to Achieve the Ultimate Medusa Makeup Look
Let’s start creating some snake magic, shall we? Here’s how I achieved this powerful, mesmerizing Medusa makeup.
Now that we have our products ready, let’s slay this Medusa makeup tutorial step by step. Trust me, by the end of this, you’ll feel like the queen of Gorgons, ready to stun (without actually turning people to stone, of course).
Prime Like a Gorgon Queen
We all want our makeup to last through the night (or, you know, centuries like Medusa’s curse 😜). Start with Maybelline Pore Eraser. This primer smooths out your skin and gives you a flawless, matte finish to work with. If you don’t have it, no worries, Wet n Wild’s Matte Primer will work like a charm. Get it here.
Foundation: Flawless & Fierce
Next, apply Ingrid Cosmetics Foundation all over your face and neck to create a flawless base. Medusa was a fierce creature, but she still deserves a perfect base. If Ingrid isn’t available, Milani Conceal + Perfect 2-in-1 Foundation is an incredible dupe, offering full coverage. You can find it here. Set everything in place with Laura Mercier Setting Powder to keep your foundation looking fresh and matte.
DIY Medusa Scales: The Secret Hack
To create the scaly effect, I used a fishnet vest (yes, really!) and stretched it over my face, lightly dabbing on some black from MAC Carbon Black Eyeshade
Now, this is where the fun begins—creating Medusa’s iconic scales! I didn’t have time to go out and buy special FX makeup, so I got a little creative.
I used green shades from Revlon Creme Illuminate, layered with Maybelline Blue Lagoon for a shimmering sea-snake effect.
For a fierce serpent-like finish, I used Zay Beauty’s green eyeshadow and added gold dots from the same Palette.
To create the scaly effect, instead of a fishnet stocking. I used a fishnet vest (yes, really!) to create that scaly effect and lightly dab on some black from MAC – the carbon black.
Eye Magic: Dark & Glittery
Time to create some sultry eyes !
Start with Guerlain Terracotta Bronzing Powder as a transition shade. Blend MAC Carbon Black Eyeshade across your lash line, focusing on the outer corners to create a smoky effect.
Then I used gold from the Zay Beauty Shokh Palette on the inner corners of your eyes. Then, blend it out with a shimmering emerald shade on the outer corners. This will amp up those vibrant, snake-like hues.
Add some NYX Gold Glitter on top of the gold eyeshade and NYX Emerald Glitter over the green to give your eyes that hypnotizing Medusa glow.
Medusa isn’t just dark and sultry—she’s got a bit of shimmer to her! So, for the extra oomph, I added NYX Gold Glitter over the gold eyeshade and NYX Emerald Glitter on the green eyeshade for that hypnotizing Medusa glow.
You want to look like you could turn someone to stone with a single look, so make sure those eyes are shining! 🐍✨
Pro tip:
For extra drama, line your waterline with a Sapphire Emerald Green Pencil and blend it out for an intense, snake-like stare.
Lashes That Slay
No Medusa look is complete without long, dramatic lashes. Coat your lashes in Maybelline Colossal Mascara—it adds volume and length for that “don’t mess with me” vibe. You can grab yours here.
Serpent Queen Lips
For the lips, we’re going dark and bold to match Medusa’s fierce energy. MAC Lipstick in Antique Velvet is perfect. Let’s make it darker. Dab a little bit of Ingrid Silver Grey on top for a stone-like, snake-inspired finish. effect.
Medusa Hair Vibes: DIY Snake Headpiece
Now, let’s talk hair. I wasn’t about to wrestle with real snakes (obviously 😂). So, I braided my hair and used a ready-made snake Medusa headband.
I added some hair accessories to create the illusion that snakes have coated my hair. These accessories make them sit upright like Medusa’s terrifying, writhing hair.
Trust me, the hair is very simple than its looks and who has so much of time to do DIY
Final Thoughts
There you have it, my spooky glam fam—a full Medusa Makeup Tutorial that’s guaranteed to turn heads (without turning anyone to stone… I hope! 😜).
Heading to a Halloween party, cosplay event, or just want to scare the neighbors. This look will have you feeling like a true Gorgon queen.
Why Medusa Makeup is the Ultimate Halloween Look
Medusa is iconic for being both fierce and tragic. This makeup lets you embrace your inner power while playing with bold colors, glitter, and textures. It’s also fully customizable —go dark and sultry or glamorous, the choice is yours!
I truly believe Medusa’s story deserves its own movie, but this time with her as the heroine. She should be the one to take down Poseidon, who wronged her, and Perseus, for trying to be the hero by killing her. Instead, she could be the one who saves Andromeda. As for Athena, there could be a twist—since she turned Medusa into a Gorgon (possibly) to protect her, perhaps Medusa could show mercy by turning Athena into a human for eternity—a terrifyingly beautiful woman—and let her live with the consequences!
What’s Next?
Now that we’ve conquered Medusa, what spooky or mythical character should I tackle next? Drop your suggestions in the comments—I’m always up for a new challenge!
Until next time, stay spooky, stay fabulous, and keep slaying those Halloween vibes!
