Hey beauties!

Alternative or alt makeup is making a comeback in 2025 and it’s absolutely everywhere right now. If you’re not familiar with it, don’t worry— read on! One of the most debated aspects of this makeup style is whether to wear false lashes. A lot of people say the alt aesthetic is incomplete without them—and maybe that’s true for some. But as a proud no-falsies fan, I’m here to show you a stunning alt makeup look without lashes.

Alt makeup is all about embracing your individuality and flipping off societal expectations. Who cares what he says or how she feels? This aesthetic speaks to the rebellious soul in all of us—it calms and empowers at the same time.

This is one of my favorite edgy looks that gives off serious grunge-meets-glam vibes. Basically, it’s a soft goth makeup look that makes you look effortlessly cool—without spending hours perfecting a lash line.

Is Alt Makeup the Same as Goth Makeup?

Alt makeup and goth makeup often get lumped together, but they’re not the same thing. **Alt (alternative) makeup is a broad term that includes any style outside the traditional beauty norms.

Goth makeup, on the other hand, is a sub-style of alt—focused on dark, dramatic, and romantic elements like pale skin, black eyeliner, and deep lips.

So while goth makeup is definitely alt, not all alt makeup is goth.

Alt Makeup Styles

There are so many ways to express your personality with alt makeup. Here are some popular sub-styles:

  • Grunge Makeup: Smudged eyeliner, muted tones, and a moody aesthetic
  • Goth Makeup: Dark lips, dramatic eyes, pale base
  • E-Girl Makeup: Blush-heavy cheeks, bold eyeliner, heart stamps
  • Punk Makeup: Sharp lines, bold color clashes
  • Cyberpunk:Neon accents, metallics, futuristic vibes

For today’s tutorial Alt Makeup without the lashes , we’re keeping it soft goth glam—a smokier, wearable version of goth makeup, perfect for brown and deep skin tones.

Alt Makeup without the lashes on Brown Skin – Goth Glam Makeup

Let’s be honest: Goth and alt makeup often looks like it’s only made for fair skin. But that’s a myth. With the right shades and techniques, it looks absolutely stunning on melanin-rich skin too!

Today, I’ll show you exactly how to achieve this stunning, soft goth look. This look uses purple and plum tones, which warm up brown skin beautifully and give you that grungy edge—no false lashes needed.

Soft Glam Look Alt Makeup Look Without Lashes – Step-by-Step Tutorial

In this look, I used **purple, and plum tones** to bring out the warmth and richness of brown skin.

Here’s how I created this goth glam makeup for brown skin—using just mascara for lashes!

Eyes (Start here!)

Bold looks = fallout risk. Always do eyes first!

  • MAC Powder Kiss Eyeshadow – Used as a soft, diffused base (also doubled as blush).
  • Zay Beauty Eyeshadow Palette – For rich shade of matte purple and glitter purple to add a pop of sparkle
  • I used the silver grey shade from Ingrid cosmetics on the inner corner of my eyes and for added oomph to the soft goth glam look for this Alt Makeup Look Without Lashes Tutorial
  • Maybelline Colossal Mascara– And off course double coats of this gorgeous mascara on the upper and lower lashes to lengthen it. Basically, ditch the lashes and let your mascara do all the talking.

Face:

  • For the foundation I used the Ingrid Cosmetics Full coverage satin foundation. It blended flawlessly with a damp beauty blender. It’s full coverage, so I skipped concealer.
  • La Girl Concealer – Used to brighten the under-eyes and lift the face.
  • To keep everything matte and flawless , I used Laura Mercier Setting Powder all over the face and also baked my under eyes with it.
  • Luscious Cosmetics Highlighter – My fav! Neither gold nor silver—just the right tone for this look.

Lips:

Wet n Wild Cat Suit Lipstick– For the lipstick, I went with the vampiest color – deep metallic purple  shade. It adds drama without being too dark

This combo gives you a soft goth aesthetic with a warm twist—bold yet wearable, edgy yet elegant.
