Contouring has been used since the 1800-1500. It was popular among the stage artist to highlight the prominent features of their face and bring attention of the audience because it was the norm to use a lot of powder (literally making face doused with white powder) at that time.
In 1900’s, contouring became popular in the cinema actors but it was still an unknown thing among the masses. Today, the technique that we know as Contouring was launched in 1945 by Max factor, a legendary makeup artist.
But, it was in 2010 after the launch of Social Media that contouring gained immense popularity especially after Kim Kardishian posted an after and before picture of her sculpted cheeks
My Experience
One of the best thing about Luscious cosmetics is the easy to use approach in their products. Obviously, the quality of the product play an important role but proper instructions make it easier for the beginners to do makeup. Face Contour Kit Matte Drama from Luscious Cosmetics has proper instructions in its ‘Guide to Gorgeous’ booklet which indicates what shades to be used on specific parts of your face.
Contouring is considered a difficult thing to do in makeup. Many people don’t like it simply because they cant get it done right. Sometimes, it is a wrong shade on the wrong area or either the shade gets too dark and doesn’t create sharp angular features.
It took a long time to use Face Contour Kit Matte Drama from Luscious Cosmetics on my face because I’m very comfortable with the shape of my face and don’t believe in using contouring for everyday makeup.
When I tried the Face Contour Kit Matte Drama from Luscious Cosmetics for a heavy makeup look. I really liked the results not just in real life but how extremely beautiful the end result looked on the pictures. Especially, how easily it helped me enhance the shape of my face.

Dark Contour:
It is a gorgeous chocolate shade of a contour and looks extremely appealing on the brown skin beauties. It should be used with caution from a thin foundation brush (like 270 Synthetic Mini Round Slant Brush from MAC) to create sharp lines for a chiseled cheek bones and sculpted chin. The application of brush can make or brake everything while using this shade. If you are not careful then it could create dark patches or extra darkness around the faces.
Medium Contour
Medium drama could be used as a bronzer as well. I find it of superb quality and I think it can be used alone for an everyday look in order to add colour to the face.
Matte Highlighter:
One of the disappointing aspect of the palette is the matte highlighter which appeared as a face powder. It didn’t show up on my face at all and I had to use Hyper Real Glow from MAC as a highlighter to appear on my face. Luscious Cosmetics really need to up its game and incorporate a good, pigmented highlighter in the palette to make the KIT a solution for contouring and highlighting.
Cream Illuminator
Illuminators are slightly different then highlighters as these are added into the foundation to give the appearance of a radiant skin overall rather than used at targeted areas like a highlighter. However, in case of Face Contour Kit Matte Drama, the cream illuminator is cream highlighter. Therefore, girls with oily skin tones need to be careful as it may trigger acne and cause oil to build up especially in summer.
Pigmentation:
The contours are extremely good and very pigmented. These are the reason behind the sculpted face, chiselled cheekbones and angular noses.
Texture:
The texture is very smooth and not grainy. The contours are powdery while the only thing cream in the palette is the illuminator.
Appearance in Pictures:
The contouring on face appears far beautiful in pictures than in real life. I was not expecting the results to be so smooth. Especially for brown skin beauties, the dark drama creates a lovely depth to the face.
Lasting:
The lasting is decent around 5-6 hours without a makeup spray in winters. But , I always think the real test is summer time especially in humidity. For contouring, the foundation and the skin type would also play an important role in its lasting.
Aicha’s recommendation
Now, contouring is not meant for the experts anymore. I tried the dark contour on the cheeks, nose and medium on the forehead. And, You could just see for yourself that how it has made my cheeks look more sculpted and enhanced the shape of my nose.
In my opinion, Face Contour Kit Matte Drama from Luscious Cosmetics for CONTOURING is extremely good due to the excellent pigmentation. The magic of the kit is DARK DRAMA shade.
All being said, I really think Luscious needs to work on the highlighter and instead of it being too caked like a face /baking powder, it should be like shiny like a highlighter is supposed to be.
