Today’s review is about the beautiful berry coloured lipstick from the matte range named Aria from NYX Cosmetics .It is amazing to know that colour purple has been linked with power and royalty since ancient times. It was labelled as the colour of the gods and was worn only by the rulers of the Mediterranean.
HISTORY OF PURPLE COLOR
The Ancient Greeks in Phoenicia obtained purple from a natural dye known as Tyrian Dye. The dye was taken out of a species of predatory sea snails called Murex, which were found in the Mediterranean port city of Tyre.(Now, it is a port city in Lebanon)
Because, it was extremely labour intensive to obtain purple it became so expensive that only the ruling elites could afford it. Purple retained its regal status till a long time until 1856, when an English chemist, William Henry Perkin accidentally created synthesized purple. He was trying to synthesise Quinine for Malaria from Aniline but instead created synthesized purple. After the synthesized purple came in the market and became common the need to go curate it from sea snails didn’t make much logic and so with the passage of time it was used by everyone and in everything, including makeup.
During the punk movement in the 70’s, purple lipstick became a rage by the hippies and after that many cosmetics companies started producing purple lipsticks in similar hues.
Because of its cooler undertones, the magenta berry results in an even coverage.

ARIA FROM NYX COSMETICS is my first lipstick that I bought in the purple shade range. Although I have tried many NYX Cosmetics lipstick from matte range but I was a bit apprehensive about using Aria. I wanted to get my GO-TO lipstick in a beautiful, striking purplish hue. As Aria is a brighter, magenta berry with cooler undertones it compliments the brown skin tone perfectly and is a good alternative to the traditional colours.
It is very easy to create variety of looks with this gorgeous beauty – ARIA FROM NYX COSMETICS. For example, a dramatic effect along with some winged eye liner over a champagne lid or just using Aria alone over a natural base is enough to get you ready for a party.
I found the texture to be super moisturising. Also, it doesn’t feel dry because it is enriched with vitamin E unlike matte collection of the other drug store brands.
