Selecting the right Formula for the Blush

Dry skin

Firstly, it’s important to choose the right formula of your blush.  If you have dry skin, avoid powder blushes as they tend to emphasize dry patches. Instead, opt for cream or liquid blushes that will give you a dewy finish.

Acne-prone skin

If you have acne-prone or oily skin, powder blushes are your best bet as they tend to stay put for longer and can help control shine and can provide a natural-looking flush. However, make sure to choose a matte finish blush as shimmery blushes can make your skin look greasy.

Finish

Finally, the finish of your blush can make a big difference in how it looks on your skin

Matte blushes are great for those who want a natural look, while shimmery blushes can add a subtle glow to the skin.

Satin finishes are a great in-between option that can provide a natural-looking flush with a hint of shimmer.

Consider Your Skin Tone

When choosing a blush color, it’s essential to consider your skin tone and desired look . Blush should complement your skin, not overpower it. If you have fair skin, go for light pink or peachy shades.

For medium skin, opt for warm pink or coral shades. If you have a darker skin tone, you can try deeper shades of red or plum.

I prefer using soft pinks for natural look and for tanned look deeper shades like corals, berries, or plums. It is also important to  consider your undertones and experiment with different shades to find what suits you best.

If you have cool undertones, go for blushes with blue or pink undertones. For warm undertones, choose blushes with yellow or peach undertones.

By considering your skin tone, formula, and finish, you can choose the perfect blush and know how to apply blush as a beginner for your skin type.

Pick your tool for the Blush

Decide on the tool that works best for you. Brushes, sponges, and fingers are commonly used for blush application.

I prefer a fluffy brush which is also ideal for powder blush, while creams or liquids can be blended with fingers or a damp sponge.

After assessing the basics, it is now time for us to know how to apply the blush. There are three easy techniques for applying blush:

Number 1 : Blush on the apples of your cheeks

This is the traditional way to apply blush that mimics a natural flush. For this look, you need to locate the apples of your cheeks.

Locate the apples of your cheeks

Smile in front of a mirror. The rounded, lifted part of your cheeks when you smile is known as the apple of your cheek, and it’s the natural placement for blush. Remember, it’s important to mimic a natural flush.

When applying blush, start by applying the product to the apples of your cheeks. I prefer using a cream blush for this look.

Since I didn’t have cream blush available, I used pink lipstick instead. I applied it on the back of my hand and then lightly used my other hand to blend the product upwards and outwards towards my temples. This technique creates a natural and youthful appearance.

Remember, “less is more” when it comes to traditional look blush. You can always add more product if needed, but it’s harder to remove excess blush once it’s applied.

Number 2 : Sun – Kissed look of Blush

This is the technique where we achieve a sun-kissed appearance. It is particularly suitable for long faces as it accentuates the cheekbones. I find it most fitting for my face due to its structure.

I prefer using a matte, powder blush for this look as it appears the most natural.

For this look, you have to draw a wide shape V on the upper area of your cheek bones and nose. The place where it gets more red due to sun-tanning.

Here,I have used the doll face blush from Luscious Cosmetics which is the perfect powder pink blush in matte.

It looks exceptionally stunning on brown skin and has been my go-to for many years.

Number 3 : Lifted  look of Blush

This is the most common and trendiest blush technique. By applying blush correctly, you can create the illusion of higher cheekbones and a more sculpted face.

One good thing about this technique is that it suits almost all face types and is especially good for acne-prone or textured skin, as it doesn’t accentuate acne marks since most people don’t get acne on the high points of their cheeks.

For this look, I go for either shimmery or powder blush. I find that cream blush can make my skin appear oily, so I usually avoid using it.

To achieve this look, lightly dip your brush into the product, tap off any excess, and then sweep the blush across the apples of your cheeks in gentle upward motions. Blend towards your temples for a seamless finish.

Even if you make any mistakes after completing your makeup, this technique will effectively camouflage it.

Understanding the Importance of Blush

Blush is an essential makeup product that can add a pop of color and dimension to your face. As a beginner, it’s important to understand the purpose and benefits of using blush.

Firstly, blush helps to add color to your cheeks, giving you a healthy and youthful glow. It can also help to define your cheekbones and enhance your facial features.

In addition to adding color and definition, blush can also help to balance out your overall makeup look. If you’ve applied a full face of foundation and concealer, your skin may appear flat and one-dimensional. Blush can help to add warmth and depth to your face, making your makeup look more natural and balanced.

Blend, blend, blend

Blending is key to achieving a natural-looking blush. Regardless of the technique you choose, take a moment to blend the edges of the blush for a seamless finish. This helps to avoid harsh lines and ensures a soft transition between the blush and your skin.

Adjust and set

If you find that you’ve applied too much blush, don’t panic. Gently dust a translucent powder over the cheeks to soften the color and create a more subtle effect. This step helps to set the blush and ensures its longevity throughout the day.

Conclusion

Overall, blush is an important makeup product that enhances your natural beauty and make your makeup look more polished and complete. With a bit of practice and the right techniques, even beginners can master the art of applying blush.

I hope you have learnt that how to apply blush. By following these easy steps, you can achieve a flawless and radiant blush application that complements your features.
