These gems that I’m about to share will tackle those pesky skin issues and give you the clear, radiant skin you’ve always wanted.
Simple Skincare Routine for Teenagers and Skincare for Acne
1. Sunscreen – Blue Lizard Sunscreen |Best sunscreen for kids
First up, we have sunscreen. This is an absolute must, especially if you have oily or acne-prone skin. When I was a teenager, I didn’t have anyone to guide me about using proper sunscreen, and I ended up with nasty pimples that ruined my skin. A good physical sunscreen protects our skin from harmful UV rays and prevents those pesky breakouts from getting worse and protect it. So, always use a sunscreen that’s oil-free and designed for acne-prone skin. Trust me, your future self will thank you!
I recommend CeraVe and Blue Lizard sunscreen. CeraVe Sunscreen is a broad-spectrum sunscreen that’s lightweight and non-comedogenic, meaning it won’t clog your pores. Blue Lizard, on the other hand, is known for its mineral-based formulas, which is great for sensitive skin. Both of these sunscreens provide excellent protection without making your skin greasy – though I still wonder why they chose ‘lizard’ for the name!
2. Facewash | Best Facewash for Acne
Next, an important part of a skincare routine for teenagers is facewash. It’s super important to choose one that’s suited for your skin type. If you’re battling pimples and oily skin, a good quality facewash is essential. The facewash that I recommend is Neutrogena Spot Controlling Facewash. It is affordable and helps clear dirt and excess oil.
Another useful facewash is The Matcha Biome Facewash. With probiotics, it controls acne and maintains your skin’s pH balance, though it’s a bit pricey than Neutrogena Spot Controlling Facewash but more effective. Overall, cleansing your face twice a day helps keep it clean and clear from dirt and excess oil.
For those who prefer natural ingredients, you might want to try a tea tree oil-based facewash. Tea tree oil has natural antibacterial properties that can help reduce acne-causing bacteria. It’s a gentle yet effective way to keep your skin clear.
3. Scrubs: Gentle Exfoliation
After facewash comes scrubs! While chemical peels as scrubs are effective and recommended by dermatologists because they don’t cause microscopic tears in the skin, they’re not always practical for everyday use. You have to be cautious while using them, ensuring your skin is not burnt or cut, and be careful when going out in the sun. Additionally, if someone has used excessive bleach in the past, they should never use chemical peels.
For that reason, as a daily scrub, I prefer a mild physical scrub that gently removes dead skin cells and whiteheads. I use the Neutrogena Blackhead Removing Scrub. This helps keep my skin smooth and effectively removes all the whiteheads. I also like that it is not too harsh.
4. Serums: Does Niacinamide help with acne
Now, this is the secret of calm and clear skin. I got introduced to serums few years back. And this magic potion – Niacinamide has literally improved my skin.
It is a lightweight hydrating serum and is basically a form of Vitamin B3 that works wonders for your skin, especially if you’re battling acne. It helps fade acne marks and gives our skin a beautiful glow. Just apply a few drops after cleansing and before moisturizing.
Another mild serum for is hyaluronic acid, which hydrates your skin by holding onto moisture, keeping it plump and smooth.
5. Moisturizers: Best Korean Moisturizer
Speaking of moisturizers, I know a lot of us with acne-prone skin tend to avoid them, but they’re super important and should be included in the skincare routine for teenagers! Look for an oil-free or water-based moisturizer that has a calming fragrance. This keeps your skin hydrated without clogging your pores.
A great option is the Heimish Bulgarian Rose Satin Cream, which will delight your senses as it is perfumed with Bulgarian roses.
For those with very sensitive skin, an aloe vera gel can be a great alternative. Aloe vera has soothing properties that can help calm irritated skin. It’s lightweight and absorbs quickly, making it perfect for daily use.
6. Masks: Pamper Your Skin
And a skincare routine for teenagers isn’t complete without masks! Using a gentle mask twice a week can work wonders. Go for a clay-based or charcoal mask, or even a DIY mask that you can store and use when needed. It helps to calm acne, detoxify, and refresh your skin.
I recommend using the Neutrogena Kaolin Clay Wash/Mask, which is also great for acne-prone skin. I literally use it on my active pimples, and they are gone within two days if they’re really nasty, or within 24 hours otherwise.
A popular DIY mask is a mixture of yogurt and turmeric. Yogurt contains lactic acid, which gently exfoliates the skin, while turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness and acne. Apply this mask once a week for a natural glow.
7. Hydrating Mists: Refresh On-the-Go
Now, my personal favorite – hydrating mist! It’s a game-changer in a s Skincare Routine for Teenagers, especially for acne-prone skin, when you don’t want to use anything heavy on your face. Keep a hydrating mist like rose water or moringa mist handy and spritz it on whenever your skin needs a break. It’s refreshing and keeps your skin hydrated throughout the day.
Rose water is not only hydrating but also helps to balance the skin’s pH levels. It’s perfect for a midday refresh, especially if you spend a lot of time in air-conditioned environments that can dry out your skin.
8. Lip Balm: Soft and Supple Lips
Last but not least, let’s not forget the lips. A good hydrating lip balm keeps your lips soft and supple, so you don’t even need lipstick. Just apply it throughout the day to keep your lips in perfect condition.
Look for lip balms with ingredients like shea butter, coconut oil, or beeswax. These natural ingredients provide long-lasting moisture and protection.
