How to deal with acne prone skin | Neutrogena spot controlling range

Watch the review of neutrogena spot controlling range on Youtube

Today’s post is about how I controlled my acne and reduced acne marks using Neutrogena spot controlling range. I have tried multiple products from different brands and also from Neutrogena, but I consider the spot-controlling range, especially its face wash and mask, to be the holy grail for my problem skin. Neutrogena brand was launched by its parent company Johnson & Johnson and the products for acne/blemished skin have gone extremely popular due to its effectiveness and its unique formulation particularly the presence of strong salicylic acid.

What Neutrogena Spot Controlling Range has ?

The range has 4 products

  1. Face wash
  2. Scrub
  3. Mask
  4. Moisturiser

I have always loved Neutrogena as a brand because I think it understood my condition and worked in my favour. And although, I was using a couple of different products from Neutrogena as far as face wash was concerned, namely Pink Grape & Oil free. I was not aware of spot controlling range as it is a relatively new range. I bought the product mistakenly as it is similar to the oil free range, and upon reaching home I realized, I made a mistake.

After I started using spot controlling face wash. I could really see the positive difference in my skin. The pimples went without leaving any spot, and the old spots lightened after 15 days. It also didn’t make my skin dry. Like a battle-hardened soldier, I have tried a couple of face washes and still try to look for a new one. For e.g.; I have tried the Tea Tree face wash from Body Shop, but I didn’t find the face wash any good, as it gave me pimples by over drying my skin.

Pink grape fruit and Oil free face wash from Neutrogena are good, if you have active pimples; however it becomes essential to use the moisturiser after using it even during the day in summer. Something that i extremely hate. But spot controlling face wash from neutrogena is a perfect balanced facewash and dont over dry the skin.

Neutrogena Blackhead eliminating scrub

I have not purchased the scrub from the range because i’m using Neutrogena’s blackhead eliminating scrub and I totally love it. Also, the spot controlling range don’t have the feature of black head removal which is the down side. In, my opinion the main quality of a scrub, and why I make a purchasing decision, depends upon the removal of black head.

Black and white heads are the most nasty as these clog pores and cause pimples. It is good that in black head eliminating scrub, 2 % salicylic acid is present and because of that the dirt is squeezed out and the soft grains helps in removing those. Previously, the scrubs used to be very grainy but this daily scrub is very gentle and you can definitely use it, everyday. However, I don’t think that it reduces the black head 100 % so if you want to get 100 % black heads removed then try using this scrub with a facial cleaner or facial brush.

Neutrogena Spot Controlling Wash/ Mask

Neutrogena spot controlling mask is both a wash and a mask. It consists of Kaolin clay, Bentonite clay, and 2% salicylic acid treatment. Both these clays are extremely beneficial for acne and blemished skin as these make the skin oil free, and purify it. After, 1 minute of its application, you can smell the chalky clay just like mineral clay along with a cooling sensation. It dries up pretty quickly and upon rinsing, foams up a little bit.

However, it is extremely drying and you feel the need to moisturise your skin, afterwards. And, hence I don’t recommend it as a daily facial wash. Although, I have not seen significant improvement in my spots ( may be I need to use it more) but I can vouch for the reduction in the pimples, just after a single use. It is a good alternative to the Body Shop tea tree mask, which is acts as a cooling acne mask but is pretty expensive and you can definetly save your money by going for Neutrogena spot controlling mask.

Neutrogena Spot Controlling Moisturiser

Im not a moisturiser person but I feel the need to use moisturiser after clay masks, especially Neutrogena spot controlling mask. All the moisturisers that I have tried in the past, including the Tea Tree lotion from Body Shop has disappointed me. Because, they literally, did nothing to reduce my acne marks and pimple size.

The palmer’s cream is brilliant but I can’t use it in summer. So, I was on the look out for a moisturiser that i could use all year around and luckily, this Neutrogena spot controlling moisturiser came into my life, after I started using the face wash from its range.

The moment I applied it on the face, I could feel a cooling sensation like my skin had eaten a menthol tablet but I don’t mind it. Especially, in summers, it is a very refreshing feeling. The formula is pretty light and not greasy. And actually, it is very hydrating. I have not used it long enough to check if it works on stubborn spots, but it actually makes the skin even toned.

Paraben & Spot Controlling Moisturiser

Parabens are preservatives that are added to stop the product go bad as it stops the bacteria formation and make the product quite light. Neutrogena spot controlling moisturiser has paraben in its composition like PolyParaben and Methylparaben, which is a cause of concern as there is conflicting research on the substance. In the research published by  Philip Darbe, parabens were proved to penetrate the skin. However, the relationship between cancer and parabens has not yet been established by any big research. Hence, due to lack of scientific data FDA has not not yet banned it.

But, I think that Neutrogena should stop the use of parabens already due to numerous controversies around it. Especially, after its parent company, Johnson & Johnson’s high profile talc scandal.

Aicha’s Verdict

8/10

Aicha’s Recommendation:

In my opinion, the first thing to try from this range is definitely the face wash and the face mask as these are effective and cost efficient compared to other acne products. If you want to try the moisturiser, do try it, but don’t go in the sunlight without the proper sunscreen after using it. Because, it increases the sun sensitivity due to the presence of parabens in it. Also, try to limit its use by using it on alternate days for maximum benefits.

  1. Lovely Vlog. I’m also using Neutrogina products from last year and i love them. They’re little expensive but i found them for cheap in Beautysale.ae. Try them if you’re looking to save some money.
