BHA for Acne: A Game-Changer

Dealing with acne can be a real struggle, and I’ve tried my fair share of products claiming to banish those pesky blemishes. That’s when I stumbled upon BHA—an ingredient that kept popping up in discussions about acne treatment. So, naturally, I was intrigued.

Aicha’s Experience of The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque

I have tried other products from The Ordinary and almost all of it have turned well in my favour except for the Vitamin C powder which has given me pimples. And its lying on my dressing table like a cornered tiger.

While my main concern is acne, I wanted to try this mask due to inclusion of so many acne – fighting ingredients in it.

Packaging:

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque has sleek packaging and it was like other ordinary products simple and elegant nothing fancy and the promise of clearer skin were hard to resist.

Texture:

It is an all black mask – get ready to become a pirate. Upon opening the jar, I was greeted with a lightweight and slight coarse   texture, which I learned was due to the inclusion of charcoal.

The fragrance was a very faint clay like smell although The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque claimed that it has no fragrance.

Squalene:

Squalene is a natural moisturizer for our skin. It’s a bit like the oil our skin already produces. Now, if you’re dealing with acne-prone skin, you might be thinking, “Is this for me?” And the answer is YES !

Squalene hydrates and soothes our skin without being all greasy.

Salicylic Acid :  It is an exfoliant which means  it helps your skin shed those old, dull cells, revealing the fresh and radiant ones beneath.

Kaolin : Kaolin clay is renowned for its oil-absorbing and cleansing properties. It effectively eliminates sebum on the face, encouraging a shine-free complexion.

Glycerin: Glycerin is a moisture magnet. When you apply a mask with glycerin, it helps your skin stay seriously moisturized. It’s like giving your skin a drink of water, especially in those moments when it’s feeling a bit thirsty and dry.

How to use The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque

After cleansing, I applied a thin layer of The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque on my skin, making sure to avoid the delicate eye area.

As it is a BHA mask it should not be kept on face for more than 10  minutes and after that, I  rinse it off using warm water and gently dry my face with a clean towel.

You can apply any moisturiser you have if your skin feels very dry.

Does The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque remove blackheads

One of the thing that is really scary about acne formation is the presence of whiteheads and blackheads on the skin. While whiteheads are developed due to the formation of sebum and dirt on the skin – the skin pores remain clogged. But on the other hand, black heads are penetrated deep inside the skin.

So, if you have any acne-prone skin then you need to get rid of these blackheads and whiteheads ASAP because they are the real culprits in the formation of acne & pimples on the skin.

After a few weeks of consistent use of The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque, I began to notice changes in my skin. While the results weren’t overnight magic, the white-heads were visibly less on my skin.

BHA – for Acne Scars: A Ray of Hope

One of the biggest struggles for anyone dealing with acne is the aftermath—those stubborn scars that just won’t fade.

I myself have gotten rid of the acne marks by experiments, experience and perhaps sheer luck but the scars – they don’t go away.

This mask contains BHA which is known to peel your skin and unclog the pores which leads to fading of scars.

Although, my scars didn’t fade but I think it would take much more time to make it fade.

It can appear less prominent, if i’m consistent – Let’s see

Precautions using The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque

The Ordinary has said it that you should not use this product if you are using

  • Niacinamide powder

  • Vitamin C powder

  • Acids

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque vs. Neutrogena® Spot Controlling 2-in-1 Face Wash Mask: Which Stands Out?

The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque is different from other mask – like clay masks due to the inclusion of BHA and Squalene in it which makes it so much more potent and effective.

Although I love Neutrogena but it is a mild mask as compared to The Ordinary Salicylic Acid 2% Masque and don’t really attack the white heads.

But as far as drying out pimples is concerned, I still think that Neutrogena® Spot Controlling 2-in-1 Face Wash Mask is the best.

A Word of Caution: Patch Testing

Before you jump headfirst into any new product, remember the golden rule of skincare: patch testing. Salicylic acid, though effective, can be hard for some skin types. I recommend applying a small amount and observing how your skin reacts before incorporating it into your routine.
